EA’s Online Passes Are Still Dead
EA’s Online Passes Are Still Dead
EA’s online passes are still “dead”, even after Microsoft’s recent u-turn on their used game policy. EA has reassured gamers that they won’t be bringing back their Online Passes, even after Sony’s, and now Microsoft’s, next-gen consoles will support used games. Before Online Passes were a nuisance as after buying a used game the Online Pass would have already been used, meaning you couldn’t play online (unless you bought an Online Pass separately).
Although Microsoft has gone back on their used game policies, EA Senior Director of Corporate Communications John Reseburg, made it abundantly clear that Online Passes will never be put in place again.
He told Polygon that:
“There is no change to our decision to discontinue Online Pass. It is dead”. “As we said a few weeks ago, none of our new EA titles will include online pass, and we are removing it from existing games as well. Nothing else on today’s news, but did want to be clear that our online pass decision was based on player feedback, and there’s no change”.
This announcement makes us wonder what’s actually up EA’s sleeve at this point. Maybe games with minimal content and a larger amount of micro-transaction potential? It remains to be seen.
