PS4 Troubleshooting: Network Connection Problems

When I picked up my PlayStation 4 console yesterday morning, I couldn’t wait to get home, log into PSN and download my free games from PlayStation Plus. Luckily for me, I wasn’t afflicted with any launch day power problems including no HDMI output, or the pulsing blue light issue (knock on wood though, right?). Unfortunately for me, I was afflicted with an issue; my console was catching my in-home Wi-Fi, it had my IP address and everything else that it would need to connect online, but it just wouldn’t connect. If you’re having the same issue of the console having all the info but just not connecting, read on for a fix.

Needless to say, I was getting thoroughly upset. I had spent $400 on a console, $60 on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and got Killzone: Shadow Fall for a mere $35 (courtesy of a $25 off coupon for being a Powerup Rewards member with GameStop and holding on to my Powerup Points), an overall purchase of $495. I tried resetting my router as well as tried to connect using the WPS button. Nothing was working. Amidst sending my friend text messages relaying my frustrations, I had one final brilliant idea – and it worked.

 

 

Try these steps that I had to take to connect my PS4 to my home’s Wi-Fi signal:

    • Head here to download the update on your PC

 

  • Create the following folders on your flash drive: PS4 > UPDATE > (place the update within the UPDATE folder)
  • Make sure your PS4 is fully off (if it’s in standy mode, hold your finger on the power button for 7 seconds until you hear a second beep)
  • Plug your flash drive into one of the front usb ports
  • Hold your finger over the power button for 7 seconds to boot up the console in Safe Mode
  • Install the update via your flash drive

Once you’ve installed the update, it should immediately ask you for your PSN login information and you should be good to go. If your connection problems persist, you might have to contact Sony customer support.
