Strategy Guide Reviews

If there’s one thing I love more than video games, its video game strategy guides. Early on in my gaming life, I actually used the guides for what they were intended for: walkthroughs and gameplay strategies. As time went on, I discovered that most, if not all, walkthroughs, tips, and tricks could be found online (yes Gamefaqs, there’s no denying you).

So why do I, to this day, still buy the occasional game strategy guide? There are a plethora of reasons, but mainly because it’s a decent guide for a game that I’m anticipating (e.g. Dark Souls, Bioshock Infinite, Uncharted 3, etc.). Other factors are great writing (yes, even a guide needs a good writer), thorough walkthroughs, developer commentary/interviews, great artwork, good paper stock and binding, and an attractive cover. In essence I need a coffee table book.

Future Press guides are better in quality and content than most guides by other publishers.

Once I started to get back into collecting guides, I looked online for decent reviews on certain guides I was planning to purchase. Aside from Amazon reviews, there really wasn’t anyone out there I could find who actually dedicated their whole website to such material. And one day, while browsing around looking for a few reviews, I found StrategyGuideReviews.com

Keri Honea, a strategy guide connoisseur to the core.

StrategyGuideReviews.com is run by Keri Honea and a bunch of her fanatical contributors, all of who share a common love: guides guides guides. The reviews on SGR are detailed and go into every aspect of the material they are reviewing. The quality of the walkthroughs, writing, graphics, extras, and the overall bang-for-your-buck, are all covered. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve pulled up their site when I was wishy-washy about a purchase. Their reviews have determined whether my wallet vomited its contents into an online shopping cart or lived to see another day.

Definitely do check them out, as they write other articles as well, like writer/publisher interviews, mini-game reviews, op-ed pieces, gaming diaries, and whole lot more.
