Dean Hall Creator of DayZ to Leave Bohemia Interactive by End of 2014

by

Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall, creator of DayZ, has announced his intentions to leave developer Bohemia Interactive by the end of 2014. In an exclusive interview with Eurogamer he revealed that he felt he was like “a grenade” and at some point he’ll “be a disaster for the project”.

As DayZ is currently still in early access alpha on Steam it’s unlikely the game will be fully released before Dean leaves as head developer. However, he did say that he would be “always involved” with the project as long as Bohemia still need him, obviously to a lesser extent. Part of his reasoning for wanting to leave Bohemia and DayZ behind is that he wants to pursue his dream of the perfect multiplayer experience, which he feels DayZ is not.

He also revealed to Eurogamer plans to start his own developing studio – in his home country New Zealand – saying he already has ideas for three new games. Dean stated that publishers should expect him to come knocking. But it’s not going to be under traditional terms, it’s going to be different.
