The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Battle Focus Trailer

by

2K Games released a trailer for the upcoming third person shooter/strategy title, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.  While it was relatively short, it gave us our first real glimpse of gameplay.

The easiest thing to point out here is the overall tone; everything, from the user interface to the video transitions to the gameplay itself, has a sleek, retro, and uniquely gritty feel.  Set in the 1960s, its interesting to see how much of a role the setting will play, if any.  Aside from classy aesthetics, the time period is a golden opportunity to provide a narrative riddled with social commentary.

As the first signs of combat start, members of the squad earn XP, meaning there will likely be a leveling mechanic for your characters to grow stronger.  The protagonist, William Carter, enters cover before engaging in a complex-yet-intuitive action wheel.  Here, he can command his buddies to do things like aim for specific enemies or toss out mines.  If the gameplay works as fluid as shown, RTS fanatics and shooter junkies alike should eat this title up.

The next few snippets of gameplay show quick glimpses at what’s to come, but barely dive much more into the title.  Between laser turrets, giant robots, and creepy alien bases, it seems like the developer, 2K Marin, has more than a few tricks up its sleeves.
